Above you will see a headshot of me taken in 2017 at age 37.  Below is a current headshot in 2023 at age 43.

My first role as a Nurse Practitioner was at a local dermatology clinic.  Prior to working in dermatology, I had been getting botox about 2-3 times a year since age 31.  At age 34 I was blessed with stress/hormonal acne and completed 5 months of accutane treatment.  Following that treatment I started a faithful routine of retinol at night but used no additional medical grade skin care until 2017.  I had no skin care routine.  I would not leave the house without makeup.  The sunscreen I wore was only the SPF that was in my foundation (cringe) that was usually only SPF 15.

Working in dermatology gave me so much insight into how not taking care of your skin can have damaging effects years down the road.  Some of which can be very traumatic, result in invasive surgeries, and even become life threatening.  The medical side of dermatology is vast.  Your skin is the largest organ of your body.  The endless concerns for acne, and rashes, and strange spots was an enormous learning curve.  I eventually found my passion on the aesthetic side of dermatology.  The benefits being I got to try all the things.  And did I ever try ALL THE THINGS!  Chemical peels, microneedling, facials, lasers, IPLs, more botox, my first experiences with filler, and every medical grade product I could get my hands on.

At the end of my two years at that clinic I learned so very much about the medical and aesthetic side to skin care.  These days I have a pretty strict daily skin care routine and you won’t even see me step foot outside without SPF 50 on my face and neck.

My daily skincare routine:

AM:

ZO gentle cleanser or ZO dual action scrub

ZO complexion renewal pads

ZO brightalive skin brightener

ZO smart-tone SPF 50

PM:

ZO gentle cleanser

ZO complexion renewal pads OR Clean & Clear salicylic acid 2% pads (OTC)

ZO wrinkle texture repair + ZO retinol skin brightener

Latisse for lashes

Monthly Investments:

Dermaplane + Peel

Every 3 Month Investments:

Dysport (11s, forehead, crows feet)

Every 4 Month Investments:

Dysport to masseters (jaw clenching), chin, bunny lines

Perfect Derma Peel

The bottom line is that your skin is an investment.  It’s not something that you can put a price tag on or should be bargain shopping for.  Choose your providers carefully and ensure that licensure, certifications, and qualifications are what you deserve.

It’s also when we start thinking about that New Year’s resolution we have EVERY year – to eat healthier and get back in shape. Don’t deny it, you know that’s what you were thinking – it’s your internal excuse as to why you can have that extra slice of pie or drink just one more cocktail. It’s OK, I am just as guilty as you are. 4 tips to get you through the holiday season PLUS new things coming to Studio IV!
